Dr. Rosengrant is brand new to MESA. Though he just joined in June of 2022 with the first site in Florida at USF, he will be with MESA for a while. His commitment to this program starts with his own realization when he was a professor in Georgia. Future teachers were required to submit a portfolio of their teaching which included a section on culturally responsive teaching. His internal thoughts were, “I teach physics, how can I bring culturally responsiveness into a physics class?” At that point he realized, that if he was working with future teachers, he needed to do a better job in this area if he had to think about it. Thus, began more work and development in issues around equity in STEM Education.
Dr. Rosengrant hails from Northeast Pennsylvania. He received his B.S. in Astro-Physics from the University of Pittsburgh as well as a Masters of Arts and Teaching. He was certified to teach both Physics as well as Earth and Space Science in Pennsylvania. He taught high school Physics for three years at the Bucks County Technical High School in Levittown, PA. He then went on to receive his Ed.D. in Science Education with a specialization in Physics Education. Upon graduation, he taught at Kennesaw State University outside of Atlanta, Georgia for 9 years in their Physics Department working with pre-service educators. In 2016 he relocated to the University of South Florida St. Petersburg Campus. Here he works with pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and the community in STEM and Physics Education.
